Pregnancy Issues

Women with repaired AV Septal Defect may be able to bear children without significant risk, as long as there is normal mitral valve function. Women with mitral valve insufficiency (leakiness) or stenosis should be carefully evaluated to determine their risk for pregnancy. Women with mitral insufficiency/stenosis can be high risk for pregnancy.

Anyone with congenital heart disease, repaired or non-repaired, should consult with their cardiologist prior to becoming pregnant to review the risks.
